Commercial Art II

Linocut Cards:
Reflection:

My inspiration for these cards was my mom and dad's anniversary. I really like how my design turned out, I like the how the pink color turned out on the brown card. If I could do this project over again I would want to use a different ink, because the design kind of smudged.

Printmaking Animal:
Reflection:

My inspiration for my printmaking animal was my dog, Remi. For the process, we had to choose an animal to carve, so I chose my dog. First, I drew my image and then carved it out. Then I went to the press, where I made an edition size of 20. I really like how all the little details turned out. If I could do this over again I would want to maybe add a feature to show the other side of her face. I feel like it is kind of awkward how it ends. Overall, I like how my design came out.

Geofilter:
Reflection:

My inspiration for my geofilter was things that the quad cities are known for. For the different things, I used the river bandits logo, happy joes pizza, whitey's ice cream, Iowa 80, the centennial bridge, corn, the bix, and a little riverboat to symbolize the Mississippi river. For the colors I used just a basic palette of what the objects were colored, I wasn't trying to make it abstract. I really like how my design turned out and how it all came together. If I could do it over again, I would maybe try to add more details in it, like on the pizza or ice cream.

Animal Illustration:
Colograph:
Reflection:

My inspiration for my illustrator project was my dog Remi. For this project I used a reference photo of my dog Remi, I used the different shapes in the image to create it and make it illustrated. I really like how it turned out. I like the eyes a lot I feel like those are the best element of my illustration. If I could do it over again, I would try adding some more detail into the face.

Reflection:

My inspiration for my colograph was a landscape, I chose this landscape because I took the picture during a family vacation at the beach. I also really liked the colors in the image. For this project, I used different materials for different textures; such as for the poles I used sandpaper, for the shells I used tin foil, and lastly, for the clouds, I used tissue paper for a softer look.  When I chose all my textures I collaged them together to create my image. I really like how it turned out and the colors I chose. Also, how all the different textures turned out. If I could do this over again I might just use the paint so I don't have as much bleeding, but I do like the uniqueness it gives to the image.

Insect Screen Print:
Reflection:

I chose to do a ladybug as my insect screen print because I think ladybugs are cute. I also really liked the colors red and green together because of the complementary color scheme. I added the leaf behind the ladybug to give it a background instead of just doing the ladybug. I thought this project was a little challenging because I had to cut out some pretty small details with the legs and detail on the leaf. However, I really like how it came out. If I could do this project again, I would try to line up the black outline better.

Concert Poster Design:
Reflection:

I chose to do P!nk for my musical artist because I think she is very empowering in the way she does not care what others think. Also, because she does acrobatics during her concerts and she is famously known for that. I really like how my design turned out, I think all the colors work together and how the image of P!nk turned out. I chose a pink monochromatic color scheme because it is the singer P!nk and I just thought it fit. I also really like how my flyer came out because it is simple yet matches my concert poster. I don't think I would change anything if I had the chance to do it over again.

Choice Project:
Reflection:

1. Who is your client?

I am making this design for my mom’s side business she does. She makes baby clothes, blankets, and bibs into roses that go into decorative baskets related to baby shower themes.

2. What is your client’s purpose for this work? What do they want to achieve with this design?

The client’s purpose is to create a logo for the business that represents what it is, also maybe a layout for a website, or ways the logo can be used for advertising. Another thing that is possible is labels for the baskets.

3. What is the main VIBE of your client’s company?

When doing research I found that many logos for baby boutiques or anything that relates to babies there is a lot of use of pastel colors, so I think I want to incorporate that. I would like the color scheme to be gender neutral since the baby baskets are not limited to just one gender. Another thing I want to incorporate in my logo is maybe some form of a basket since all the clothes are formed into the basket. Also, add in a rose or roses since the name is “Blooming Rosebuds”. I think I want the font to be in cursive since the font has a more delicate feel to it.

4. Who is their target audience?

My target audience is young adult to older adults and mostly a female audience. The baskets are all varied in price depending on how big you want it, therefore I feel any type of income could afford them.

5. What exists already?

When doing research for any similar products to the baby baskets, there was a few I found that did baby baskets as well, they included baby clothes, books, and other baby things. However, they did not have as unique of an approach to how they formed them. Most of them just had the baby clothes folded into the basket, whereas the baskets we create are made into roses.
