Commercial Art I

Zine "The Ocean":
Reflection:

I am really happy with how my zine turned out. I didn't know if I was going to be good at using the ink to do the shading, but it ended up working out. I really liked the shading I did with the ink using cross hatching. I also liked the way that I used the ink to add detail to the pictures such as the seashell picture, I liked the way I added sand. If I could do it over again I would probably try to add more pictures. I also would try to make the water texture a little more detailed as if it was water.

Dry Point Etching:
Reflection:

For my etching, I had some troubles keeping my lines straight. However, I really like how my overall print came out. I really liked the different values used in my picture. I like the way the flowers turned out, I was a little nervous that you would not be able to tell they were flowers. The shape ended up coming out, they had a very organic shape to them. If I could do this project over again, I would probably take some more time to make sure that the ink was really in the lines because on my last few prints they were a little lighter than I would have wanted.

Self Portrait Linocut:
Reflection:

I really like the way my prints turned out, I really like the way the detail in the waves turned out. I also, really like the way my hair ended up. However, if I could redo my project, I wish the ink would have transferred a little better on the bottom half of my paper. Overall, I thought they turned out really cool. I really enjoyed doing the linocut part, I thought it was interesting that there are different ways to do the cutouts. Also add a unique texture to it, by leaving the lines a little more raised.

Silk Screen Printing:
Reflection:

The process of making the drawing, I really like elephants and adding the flower was to help create emphasis for the elephant. So the next part of the process was to get the drawing onto the computer and digitize it, so we could burn the screen. Once we did this we put stuff on the silkscreen to burn the image on the silkscreen. Once we burned the image we washed off the part we burned so we could print. Lastly, we practiced on paper so we could practice the feel of doing the ink. Once we practiced we printed on the shirt. I really like how this design turned out, I really like the yellow flower and how the elephant really sticks out.

Monoprint:
Reflection:

I used the jelly plate print to make my mono print. On my first print I had some problems figuring out the positive and negative spaces, so I tried to improve this for my final. I also tried to use monochromatic for my practice print, but I didn't like the way it cam out either. On my final I used the sun, the moon, and the phases of the moon. I chose these because I liked the design of them together. For my color scheme I used analogous, the colors I chose are violet, green, and blue. I used different shades and tints of the colors to create depth. I really like how it turned out, however, I wish I could have lined up my design a little better for my last layer.

Stamp:
Reflection:

I started the project by creating different patterns I thought I would like, then I chose the one I liked the best. I chose the orange shape because I liked the details I could add in the center for the different pieces. I used the different colors to represent the different fruits. I really like how the detailing came out. I also really like all the colors together. If I could redo this project I would go back onto two of slices that did not have as many details as the others.
